Prematurely Damge of Slewing Bearing

Using the slewing bearing properly, a fatigue life is easy to meet. But unexpected matter occurred on the slewing bearing which will lead prematurely damage, so its life span will be shorted. This kind of prematurely damage, is an opposite matter to fatigue life, which is called quality using limitation of damage or accident. An prematurely damage is mainly caused by unproper installation, usage and lubrication, foreign matter from outside into the slewing ring, and also the unabundant research on heat effection of the shaft and shell.

Based on the ISO Classification Standard, the precision bearing is devided into five levels: P0,P6,P5,P4,P2, with the level from general precision to premium precision, and P0 is in general precision, and the other 4 levels are in precision classification. Based on different classification standard and different bearings, the classifications are different, but with the same signification. On the usablity of the precision bearing, it requires high precision range, high-speed rotation, friction and low friction change.
 Differences between the precision bearing and the general bearing:
 1. Required values for sizes are different, for the products in high precision levels, their size deviation values (inner diameter, external diameter, ellipse, etc.)are less than that of products in low classifications.
 2. The required values for rotating precision are different. The higher precision level, more stricter value is required of the bearing products.
 3. The required values for macroshap and surface quality are different, the higher precision level it is, the stricter value for the rotating precision required. 
 4. For bearing products in special high precision levels, their materials are much more beneficial than that of general precision bearing products. 

Methods of Improving the Accuracy of Precision Bearings

In order to improve the actual coordinating accuracy of precision bearings during the installation, measuring methods and tools which will not lead the distortion of bearings must be used, to work on the accuracy measurement on the coordinating surface dimensions of inner holes and external rings of precision bearings, and then work on a multianalysis on the measured datas. On the accouont, .to decided the precision installation parts for sizes of the axle and the eyelet.

Materials for Sealing Ring of Slewing Ring Bearing

Storage of the Slewing Ring

Installation should be done within 12 months after leave factory, if not in use, do not open the package. When in maintainance, process roller path, outer surface and gear surface of the slewing ring with rust prevention.
Place the slewing bearing on the flat and dry ground.
If the slewing bearing is stored longer than 12 months, should re-sprey anti-rust paint.
If several suits of slewing bearing are stacked up, between each suit of the slewing bearing, place at least 3 wood heels equisplacedly and along the circle direction, and for each layer, heels must be at the same position.

wire race ball bearing

A wire race ball bearing is a four point angular contact ball bearing.  It consists of four wires which are formed into a circle to fit a housing groove machined into the inner and outer diameters of the relatively stationary and rotating parts.  Into each of the wires is produced an accurately profiled groove which provides the bearing track upon which the balls run.  
These balls are separated by a continuous cage band and thus the load is evenly carried.  This cage band prevents any friction between the balls and aids lubrication.  As it is the bearing elements that carry the load the role of the housing is merely to to hold the bearing assembly together.  That is the choice of housing material does not affect the strength of the bearing.  The housing can be made from steel, cast iron or aluminium alloys. The wire races are made from silicon chrome hardened and tempered wire with a minimum sectional hardness of 52 HRC.
The wires are supplied with a an accurate gap to allow for differential expansion (between the wires and the housings) over a wide temperature range typically 240 - 390 K.  Owing to this gap the wires fit the housing exactly which eliminates machine tolerances.
A typical 3-part housing which is suitable to carry both radial and axial loads in nearly equal proportions.  The cross section in this case is uniform and thus has a contact angle of 45 degrees.  This angle can be reduced to form a rectangular cross section and thus change the load carrying characteristics for example to sustain more axial and less radial loads.

Overhauling for Slewing Ring Bearing

Deck crane slew bearing rocking tests

A number of incidents have occurred recently involving failure of the slew bearings of ships’ cargo deck cranes, resulting in crane losses and serious injury to personnel.These failures have been caused by undetected excessive wear in the slew bearings.
Rocking tests:Crane manufacturers generally recommend that ‘rocking tests’ are carried out every six months in accordance with their instructions, and that the results are recorded and monitored in order to ensure the wear tolerances remain within the limits permitted by the designers.Cranes which are particularly at risk are those with single ball race slew bearings. Cranes fitted with this type of slew bearing must have rocking tests carried out, in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, to determine that the amount of wear in the bearing races is within permitted limits.Although cranes with single ball race slew bearings are considered to be most at risk, rocking tests on all deck cranes,where recommended by the crane manufacturer, must be carried out and the results must be recorded.Lloyd’s Register surveyors are being instructed to review the results of rocking tests at all future Annual Thorough Surveys.If no rocking test has been carried out in the previous six months, the crane in question will not be certified for further use.It will also be recommended that the crane is taken out of service and the Lifting Appliance Register will be endorsed accordingly.
Measuring proceadures for wear in slewing bearings for rope luffing cranes.The slewing bearing is an essential part of the crane and must be well maintained.Over the years the slewing bearing will have some wear, and to be able to know if there is a need for changing the slewing bearing it is needed to keep a record of the wear.The measurements should be taken reqularly, every 6 months.Measurements can be sent to the Maker for evaluation.Note When measurements are to be taken the ship shall have as little list/trim as possible.

Slewing bearing

To "slew" means to turn without change of place; a "slewing" bearing is a rotational rolling-element bearing that typically supports a heavy but slow-turning or slow-oscillating load, often a horizontal platform such as a conventionalcrane, a swing yarder, or the wind-facing platform of a horizontal-axis windmill.
Compared to other rolling-element bearings, slewing bearings are thin in section and are often made in diameters of a metre or more; the slewing bearings on the Falkirk Wheel are 4 metres diameter and fit over a 3.5 metre axle. Slewing bearings resemble oversize aircraft control surface bearings.
Slewing bearings often use two rows of rolling elements. They often use three race elements, such as an inner ring and two outer ring "halves" that clamp together axially.
Slewing bearings are often made with gear teeth integral with the inner or outer race, used to drive the platform relative to the base.

UWE wind turbine bearing

UWE provide yaw, blade/pitch bearing and ywa bearing to our customers reliablely. UWE wind power bearing for 3KW-5MW wind turbine.Yaw bearing is mounted between the connection of tower and cabin.
Pitch bearing is mounted between the connection of blade root and wheel hub. Blade bearings of wind turbines are being challenged by bigger rotors including the trend to continuous pitching.
The yaw bearing is the most crucial and cost intensive component of a yaw system found on modern horizontal axis wind turbines, which must cope with enormous static and dynamic loads and moments during the wind turbine operation, and provide smooth rotation characteristics for the orientation of the nacelle under all weather conditions. It has also to be corrosion and wear resistant and extremely long lasting. It should last for the service life of the wind turbine while being cost effective.
Each wind turbine generator comprises of one yaw bearing and three pitch bearings, the material of the rolled rings is 42CrMo with quenching and tempering. Raceway surface intermediate frequency induction hardened. Due to complexity of the stress situation, the bearing must bear impact and carry high load. 20 years is a required lifetime for the wind turbine generator, it is also required by yaw bearing and pitch bearings as the mounting cost is too high.
