Aluminium wire race bearing

Wire race bearing is a special structure bearing with the ring and raceway composited inlay. Bearing main body material can be choosen with some special material according to the operating conditions such as special aluminum alloy material, special copper and other metals or metal materials. Using quenched high performance special spring wire embedded in the bearing ring to serve as a bearing raceway with the characteristics of high precision, wear resistance, easy maintenance.
UWE designed and developed double row cylindrical roller wire raceway slewing bearing ,which was deliveried in March 2014, recognised by the height of the foreign users. The research and development of steel wire raceway slewing bearing ensure the bearing strong corrosion resistance, light weight, and it is applicable to cold, heat, and many other very dirty environment. Meanwhile the wire race bearing has characteristics of high precision operation, carrying capacity, impact resistance, high reliability.
Due to the high contact stress is mainly borne by steel wire, rings can be seperated. Bearing steel wire rolling can be removed to replace if damaged, the characteristics greatly reduces the cost of transportation, transportation efficiency, repair costs and downtime working time (rapid change in order to avoid delay in wartime aircraft).

Wire-race bearings characteristics

Typical features of UWE wire-race bearings are the high-strength races for the rolling elements. A wire-race bearing system allows structural and material combinations as well as cross sections which are out of reach of any conventional antifriction bearing.Dimensions, cross sections and the ring material of the bearings can be optimally matched to all application requirements. Aluminum Alloy Bearing

The surrounding bearing rings are not directly exposed to rolling friction, they do not have to be made from steel but can consist of non-ferrous metals, cast iron or synthetic materials. In particular, UWE aluminium alloy wire-race bearings with light alloy bearing rings have gained special importance.The same load carrying capacity as that of comparable steel bearings is achieved by using an aluminium alloy of high mechanical strength as ring material.Compared to steel bearings of identical cross sections,aluminium wire-race bearings weigh approx. 60 % less.High mechanical strength of this wrought aluminium alloy means that the gearing can also be cut directly into one or more bearing rings.A light alloy wire-race bearing can be made corrosion-proof and maintenance-free by using appropriate materials for the rolling elements and races. The corrosion behaviour of aluminium bearing rings can be significantly improved by a surface treatment.Weight comparison between light alloy and steel bearings equal in size with the same load-carrying capacity and an external diameter of 2200 mm.

Gamesa purchasing manager will visit UWE

UWE will be visited by Gamesa(global technological leader in the wind industry) purchasing managers Bob and Peter.They will come on 30 July. All UWE staff  highly value this chance. After Vestas visit on April, UWE has perfected management system, improved quality control and optimized test equipment, and we are confident that our strength will earn this big customer.
Wind power bearings need high precision and long service life, 20 years is a required lifetime for the wind turbine generator, it is also required by yaw bearing and pitch bearings as the mounting cost is too high. A full set of quality control documents,raw material quality certificate,finished product inspection will ensure the high and strict requirement.

UWE is planing to do DNVGL certificate for slewing ring

After Vestas engineer visit to UWE, we begin to perfect management system, improve quality control and optimize test equipment. We gained another big customer ZWZ, we supply 1.5 MW blade bearing manufacturing services for them and they come for inspection.
Fortunately, Gemasa purchasing managers also will come on 30-31 July for wind power bearings. It is quite a good chance for UWE.
In addition, We are planing to do DNVGL certificate, and getting contact with the organization.This is our first time to do this certificate, so we have to gain a long-term slewing ring supply-demand relationship,especially wind turbine bearings. 
With the DNVGL certificate, we could help more customer to do slewing ring certificate and will make customer be more confident about UWE slewing bearings.

slewing ring storage

(1)Finished bearing must be horizontal, not allowed to be erected or placed askew.
(2)Placed bearing contact surfaces must be smooth, not allowed to have uneven, otherwise it will cause bearing deformation.
(3)Bearing storage environment must be dry, clean and dust free.
(4)If multiple overlapping store, each bearing placed along the circumferential direction at least three uniform between the contour of wood, and the lower level pad should be placed together, aligned from top to bottom, each other can't dislocation.
(5)Finished bearing package must be opened prior to installation, do not wash rust inhibitor.
(6)Absolute prohibition dismantle bearings, or cancel the guarantee.
(7)Product packaging bearing factory has been underway for oil seal, packaged products bearing under suitable conditions for 6 months, if the idle time more than 6 months, bearing every six months to a new antirust oil seal packing. Bearing raceway lubrication once every 12 months.
(8)Leave unused bearing “oil seal packing” likes followings:
A:take the bearing from the wooden cases
B:open the packing carefully without destroying bearing seal;open it from the most outer layer step by step apart.
C:after opening the bearing, fill in standard grease oil on raceway,clean surface oil prohibiting to use chlorinated solvent, and prevent solvent to get into the race through seal.
D:After oil removal,clean surface, coat with antirust oil (F20-1)or industrial vaseline (SY1607-77) evenly.
E:then put bearing in wooden cases according to the original packing method. Considering storage environment, nail a layer of felt in the wooden cases for moisture-proof and waterproof

Handling
(1)Can use Crane and lifting forklift to carry, but must confirm lifting equipment carrying capacity meets the requirement making sure sling is firm and reliable
(2)Keep bearing in horizontal position avoid any shock. Prohibit to carry bearing vertically fixing bearing circle.
(3)When hoisting, use lifting bolt to prevent knock against and scratch bearings.

Packaging
(4)Wooden cases packaging or plastic film and plastic woven cloth wrapped package, prohibiting collision and rolling. When stacked,if by automobile transportation,Overlap height shall not exceed the crate baffle。Without the packing cases, Shall be of the board more than three supporting points, fulcrum solid, bearing and car floor separated preventing to scratch bearings

Transportation
(5) Train transportation,Packed in wooden cases flat to avoid Collision
(6)Ship transportation,considering sea environment, coat with antirust oil on bearing surface,wind two layer of wax plastic film or  Bitumen glue film according 50% lap way, then wind one or two layer Plastic woven cloth, fix wooden cases flat to avoid collision.
(7)Wooden cases should be firm and reliable, one wood case for one bearing in principle, board locate more that three points on sides/inner ring/outer ring of bearings to avoid moving。
(8)Packaging list, product certification and installation instructions documents putting in Plastic Bag can be supplied according to customers’ require. (Installation instructions can be one-time given according to specific circumstances
(9)The outermost layer(wooden cases) mark bearing number specifications/Number of units/consignor/consignee. Meanwhile, mark “only flat””avoid collision”
(10) For imported and exported products, must use Fumigation-free packing.

Slewing Ring Cleaning and Assembling

After the slewing ring is assembled, elements of each suit and each line cannot be exchanged. When disassemble the slewing ring for cleaning, it should be operated based on the slewing bearing assembling drawing strictly, the half ring of upper and lower should be assembled according to the original drilling hole position.

Gear surface of the slewing bearing should be cleaned every 10 days to remove sundries, and sprayed with the lubricating grease.

Deck crane slew bearing tests

A number of incidents have occurred recently involving failure of the slew bearings of ships’ cargo deck cranes, resulting in crane losses and serious injury to personnel.
These failures have been caused by undetected excessive wear in the slew bearings.

Rocking tests
Crane manufacturers generally recommend that ‘rocking tests’ are carried out every six months in accordance with their instructions, and that the results are recorded and monitored in order to ensure the wear tolerances remain within the limits permitted by the designers.

Cranes which are particularly at risk are those with single ball race slew bearings. Cranes fitted with this type of slew bearing must have rocking tests carried out, in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, to determine that the amount of wear in the bearing races is within permitted limits.

Although cranes with single ball race slew bearings are considered to be most at risk, rocking tests on all deck cranes,where recommended by the crane manufacturer, must be carried out and the results must be recorded.

If no rocking test has been carried out in the previous six months, the crane in question will not be certified for further use.It will also be recommended that the crane is taken out of service and the Lifting Appliance Register will be endorsed accordingly.

Measuring proceadures for wear in slewing bearings for rope luffing cranes.The slewing bearing is an essential part of the crane and must be well maintained.
Over the years the slewing bearing will have some wear, and to be able to know if there is a need for changing the slewing bearing it is needed to keep a record of the wear.

The measurements should be taken reqularly, every 6 months.Measurements can be sent to the Maker for evaluation.

Note When measurements are to be taken the ship shall have as little list/trim as possible.

Materials for Sealing Ring of Slewing Ring Bearing

Materials for sealing ring of the slewing ring bearing usually is butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber SN7453, structure is often sealing in lip type. In places with the large discrepancy of climate and temperature, can use zeolite base rubber as the material of sealing ring for the slewing ring bearing, its reaction temperature range is much larger than that of butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber, and its highest reaction temperature can reach to 200 ℃. Regarding to sealing structure, there is special structure of sealing ring is shown as double-lip sealing for the wind turbine slewing ring, this sort of structure can avoid radiation and oxidation gases into the roller path, to guarantee quality of the roller path. In some special wind fields under some conditions, materials and structures of sealing ring of the slewing ring should be specially considered.

Slewing Ring Work and Utility

Slewing ring is a revolving bearing with gear rings drove by a motor. UWE slewing ring usually is utilized in heavy machines that slowly revolves on a horizontal platform. Typically the slewing ring was used in solar energy tracking system, cranewind power generator, hoisting system etc.. For the highly precision slewing bearing, it can also used in construction machinery.
Types of the slewing bearing are usually into three modes: without gear, internal gear and external gear.

Slewing Ring Bearing for Wind Turbines

Except to support higher titling moment, the wind turbine slewing bearing can also much more complicated fatigued load due to aerodynamic and impeller revolving, additional with the requirements of high reliability and long life, so dynamic support capacity must be considered when in type-selection and designing of the wind turbine slewing ring bearing, mainly for the anti-fatigued life of the roller path.
Type-selection for the wind turbine slewing ring, especially for the variation-impeller slewing ring, is still in discussion. In accordance with installation and application status, it is commonly use the double-row four-contact ball bearing for the variation-impeller bearing, and for the yaw-navigation slewing ring bearing, usually it is using single-row four-contact ball bearing, and also the cross roller bearing but not commonly used.
Quality of the slewing ring bearing is mainly due to quality of its roller path, including machine work quality and heat treatment quality. And quality of the roller path is based on equipment and technique guarantee, so the critical point for assuring quality of the slewing ring bearing is properly selection of equipment and technique.
Wind  turbine slewing ring bearing is mainly used in bad environment, so requirements for lubricating, sealing and anticorrosion are strict, by using proper lubricating grease and method, sealing material and structure, anticorrosion technique.
Slewing ringis a kind of large-scale bearing, possessing driving gears in either internal ring or external ring, used for matching gear engagement with driving pinion for driving torgue, in wind turbine, commonly used for pitch and yaw system of wind turbine which endures complex load and is difficult to disassemble, assemble and maintain.Therefore, the wind turbine slewing ring bearing is more strictly in design and manufacture. Generally, life requirement for the wind turbine slewing ring bearing should be as the same as that of the wind turbine unit, and should be more than 20 years.

Slewing ring installation related parameters requirements

(1)Mounting surface roughness is less than Ra12.5.
(2)The maximum allowable values of the installation surface flatness  can be determined according to bearing actual working condition, but the flatness change must be uniform increasing or decreasing, within the scope of the circumference of a circle, not allowed to appear more than two (including two) peak, and 100 mm face runout is not allowed within the scope of more than 0.015 mm
(3)Maximum value on the radial direction inclination of the mounting surface is 0.04mm .
(4)Prestressing force of bolt installation must be determined according to the strength level of the bolt,the pre load force is 0.7 times to the bolt material yield limit.

Inspection after slewing ring assembly

(1)After all bolts tighten. the bearing rotation must be more than 3 circles, check the bearing rotating gear mesh are in good condition.
(2)Whether the tooth meshing clearance is in line with the requirements.
(3)Check whether the parts have interference.
(4)Check whether the seal is reliable.
(5)Check whether there are abnormal noise.

Maintenance and lubrication
(1)Installation of the bearing,after working 100 hours,the clients need to check the bolt pretension,then check check the bolt pretension once after working 500 hours. After working 14000 hours, according to the working conditions, consider replacing the bolt.
(2)According to the working condition, regularly to clean tooth surface, and add grease, tooth surface coating, residue, if any, once every 10 working days to clear, until clean.
(3)The bearing have been injected the grease, if can not meet the clients’ working conditions, clients can inject the new grease again.
(4)In the normal working conditions,the bearing need injection grease once after working 100 hours, In the tropics, high humidity, dust, large temperature changes and continuous working, the bearing should be a weekly lubrication.the bearing need injection the new grease if the machine stopped work for a long time.the raceway must be filled lubricating grease. there is a small amount of grease overflow on the lips of sealing ring.
(5)When greasing bearings must rotate slowly, to ensure grease filling evenly.
(6)Because of the large comprehensive factors at work, the user can choose grease according to the specific requirements.

wind turbine blade bearing

Wind turbines must be aligned optimally to the wind in order to prevent extreme loads and to provide the highest possible energy output.
The blade angle is always optimally adjusted to the wind speed via the balde bearing in order to control the performance of the wind turbine.The high loads from the dynamic stresses on the rotor blades must be safely dissipated into the rotor hub via the raceways and the screw connections.Very high loads occur in some instances from the dynamic load of the rotor blades. These loads must be transferred securely via the raceways and the screw connections of the blade bearings into the rotor hub. Single or double row four point contact ball bearings with a cage are used here, with internal or external gearing or without gearing, depending on the drive design.
As an essential component of the turbine safety design, blade bearings must ensure that the blades can be reliably and consistently adjusted under all operating conditions. A long operating life and high reliability are achieved thanks to the optimized dimensioning of the bearings and a maintenance concept tailored to the turbine and the operating conditions.The bearing can be produced with internal or external gear teeth or without gear teeth depending on the blade adjustment concept of the turbine.
In addition, the blade angle can be adjusted using electric or hydraulic systems. These use sealed plain bearings with the maintenance-free fabric, protected against corrosion by means of the corrotect plating.

1.Slewing Ring Identification
If UWE finished bearings, all of these are accompanied by UWE signage. The signage is located near the soft belt (ball holes)of bearing raceway or according to user’s requirements . Signage on the identification code (Product Code) is the only available queries.
2.Important marker
(1)There is a raceway hardening soft belt mark on the outer ring and inner ring in the finished bearing.Soft position is on ball filling hole without marking if bearing has ball hole ring; marking "small hole" or compliance with "S" corresponding to hardened soft belt if there is no ball hole ring. Soft belt and marker can be determined according to user requirements.
(2)For toothed products, there are three biggest teeth relative to the raceway beating, located smallest (the tooth), maximum (external gear) diameters on the beating circle, and has a circular hole marker on the  tooth tip surface. Painting with red or green on the top of tooth.
3.Check before assembly
(1)Carefully open the package, not to damage the bearing surfaces and seals, especially bearing end faces, otherwise it will affect the quality of the bearing assembly. If you find the hole plugs shedding, will require detailed examination, cleaning, must ensure no foreign object into the lubrication raceway.
(2)Check and make sure that the installing bearing is matching your host.
(3)Confirm that the installing bearing has no shock and damage during transport.
(4)Check the seal is not broken.
(5)Check the hole location and ensure that no foreign object into the lubrication raceway.
(6)Check the beating tooth maximum point whether clear.
(7)Check whether the location marker on the soft belt clear.
(8)Check the anticorrosive coating surface is not damaged.

Wire Race Ball Bearings

Slewing Ring Transport and Storage

During the transportation and the storage of UWE slewing rings, horizontal position is recommended; pay great attention to avoid any stroke, particularly in the radial direction.The slewing bearings must not be exposed to the elements,and must be used in short.It's recommended storage in shelter out of all weathers.If the expected storage time is superior to twelve months, it is advisable to ask for the treatment of those surfaces that normally don't receive it.On request, it is possible to have the surfaces treated with protective oil, washable with naphtha or grease removers.The slewing bearings are usually packed on a pallet of the same size, and wrapped with PE material; on request, It is also possible to supply a special packaging (according to the specific needs), using supports and materials fit to guarantee the best static and dynamic conditions for the transport and the storage of our bearings.

Slewing bearing service life

In antifriction slewing bearing technology, theoretical life is a well-known term. Due to a multitude of influential factors, nominal life acc. to DIN/ISO281 cannot in practice be taken as an absolute value but as a reference value and design guide. Not all slewing bearingswill reach their theoretical life, although most will generally exceed it,often by several times.Theoretical life criteria cannot be applied directly to large-diameter slewing bearings, particularly with slewing bearings performing intermittent slewing motions or slow rotations.In most applications the speed of rotation in the race will be relatively low. Therefore, the smooth operation and precise running of the slewing bearing are not adversely influenced by wear or by the sporadic occurrence of pittings. It is,therefore, not customary to design large-diameter slewing bearings destined for slewing or slow rotating motion on the basis of their theoretical life. For better definition, the term “service life”was introduced. A slewing bearing has reached its service life when torque resistance progressively increases, or when wear phenomena have progressed so far that the function of the bearing is jeopardized.Large diameter antifriction bearings are used in highly diverse operating conditions. The modes of operation can be entirely different such as slewing over different angles, different operating cycles, oscillating motions, or continuous rotation. Therefore, apart from static aspects,these dynamic influences have to be taken into account.
The slewing ring service life determined with the aid of the curves shown is only valid for bearings carrying out oscillating motions or slow rotations. This method is not applicable to:
– slewing bearings for high radial forces,
– slewing bearings rotating at high speed,
– slewing bearings having to meet stringent precision requirements.
In such cases UWE bearing will carry out the calculations based on the load spectra including the speed of rotation and the percentage of operating time.We must clearly distinguish between the operating hours of the equipment and the actual rotating or slewing time. The various loads must be taken into account in the form of load spectra and percentages of time. For service life considerations another influential factor not to be neglected is the slewing angle under load and without load.For an approximate determination of the service live of a slewing bearing, service life curves are shown next to the static limiting load diagrams.This does not apply to profile bearings types 13 and 21.These service life curves are based on 30,000 revolutions under full load. They can also be employed to determine the service life with different load spectra or to select a bearing with a specified service life.
